Singapore Water Sports

Are you into thrills and adventure when on vacation? Do you love trying a variety of different water sports? Did you know that there are several great ways to enjoy the water in Singapore? Often known for its cuisine, shopping, modern malls, colonial history, and vibrant ethnic areas, not to mention the theme parts and fun of Sentosa, many people are quite surprised to learn that Singapore also boasts some great options for diverse water sports. This really shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, however, given that Singapore is an island nation! Indeed, the warm weather and sunshine make this a great place for water sports.

If you fancy partaking in some watery fun when in Singapore here are some great activities for you to try:

Depending on your experience, skill, and inclination, you can either take a boat trip where you sit back, relax, and admire the views, or alternatively you can charter your own boat and put all your sailing techniques to the test. Some places also offer courses if you want to learn the basics or brush up on your skills. If you’re feeling flash (and know what you’re doing!) you could even charter your own yacht for the day! There are several sailing clubs around Singapore, such as the Changi Sailing Club and the National Sailing Centre.

Diving and Snorkelling

If you like seeing a colourful array of sea creatures and marine habitats some of Singapore’s outlying islands offer good snorkelling and diving opportunities. There are also some cool wrecks to explore. The country has several dive operators where you can get certified and arrange trips. One of the most popular places for exploring the underwater world is Pulau Hantu. Be aware though that the visibility in Singapore’s waters can be variable.

Windsurfing

If you like to ride the waves at high speed you’ll be delighted to know that there are a couple of excellent places in Singapore for windsurfing. You can take some lessons at East Coast Park and also at the National Service Resort and Country Club.

Kayaking

Explore the mangroves at Pulau Ubin, try your hand at sea kayaking around the coast, enjoy the waters of the Kalling Basin, and relax as you paddle through the stunning lagoons of Sentosa. However you like to kayak you’ll find some great options in Singapore.

Wakeboarding

Fast and thrilling, get the adrenalin pumping with some exciting wakeboarding. Take some lessons and learn how to harness the mighty powers of the water. Alternatively, you could sit by the sidelines and watch others having a go. Check out Extreme Sports next to the Kalling River, Launch Wakeboard School at the Marina Country Club, Maxout Hydrosports at Raffles Marina, and Sentosa’s Siloso Beach.

Enjoy squeals and shrieks galore as you cling on tightly, bumping your way across the waves off the coast of Siloso Beach. You will be thrown about … but, that’s all part of the fun! This is a great activity for families with older children as well as just the adults.

Other water sports in Singapore include swimming, fishing, canoeing, paddle boarding, and cable skiing.
